FoB Business Administration Expert Talks- Nature Positive Universities: A Global Movement

Date: March 6, 2025 - Thursday
Time: 15:00
Place: Online
Speaker: Emily Stott, University of Oxford, UK
This talk will explore the Nature Positive Universities initiative launched by the UN Environment Program and the University of Oxford in 2022 to create a community of institutions prioritizing action for nature on their campuses. Senior management from over 150 institutions in the network have now committed to a nature-positive pledge, which includes biodiversity baselines, targets, actions, and reporting. This is complemented by a student ambassador program that comprises a cohort of 450 students from 40 countries, who attend monthly green skills workshops and take action on their campuses. Actions taken by universities include creating new habitats and wildlife corridors, calculating the impact of supply chains on nature, and promoting lower-impact food choices and circular systems on campus. Emily Stott studied Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge and has an MSc in Sustainable Textiles from the University of Leeds. She worked for eight years as a project manager and consultant for Bioregional, an entrepreneurial environmental group, where she coordinated research into hemp textiles, low-impact housing, and the use of ecological footprinting methods. Emily is now based in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science, Department of Biology at the University of Oxford where she has established and coordinated the Nature Positive Universities initiative in collaboration with UNEP.
